As a Production Editor I get to see my film crew at work every day. I see the functions they fill and sometimes I evenend up filling some of those roles. And how do the other team members play their roles?
Pre-Production
I think that one of the most confusing things about film production is that we`re all on the same side of the fence. We all would like to make a great movie or a great film. Film directors and manufacturers want to give their vision to audiences, so that they get everyone to pitch in with their own ideas. Film editors are in the center of the action, taking out the opportunity to actually push the director and producer to ensure the film is perfect.
Production
Another function that comes around as you browse through film production documents is that of those art directors. These are the guys and women who design the props, or idea paintings for movies. They brainstorm and then bring those concepts to life on paper.
Art Directors
Art directors also behave as the manufacturers. They sit downwith supervisors and discuss the story with them till they are happy with the film. They then turn in their draft into the producer. The producer will review it and eithersign it or give it a thumbs up. We are then in a position to eitherproduce or direct the film based upon our discussions with the manufacturers.
Post-Production
Editing is an integral part in film production. Our tasks include cutting together each ofthe film from start to end. Including everything from cutting footage together to insert it into the picture, to removing scenes which aren`t vital. We are responsible for making certain the whole film is organized and flow.

In the instance of a film directed by a director, the Production Manager is responsible for taking care of the minutest details like the sets, props, costumes, as well as the day-to-day office operations.
Generation Designer
The artist behind each ofthe designs – the backdrop and the costumes for the film. He/she has to create a strategy for the film and work with the director to ensure everything runs smoothly.
